We recently reported on the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office leading another “Wolf Pack” operation focusing on apprehending drivers suspected of driving under the influence (DUI). While the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office has not officially announced another DUI Wolf Pack for the 2017 Memorial Day holiday weekend, there is no doubt that enforcement efforts will be increased by all law enforcement agencies in Pinellas County from May 26th-29th, 2017.
Additionally, the Florida Highway Patrol is participating in the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign that targets drivers not wearing a seatbelt. The Click It or Ticket campaign has the noble goal of reducing traffic fatalities due to lack of seatbelt use. Florida law requires the driver and front seat passenger to wear a seatbelt as well as all passengers under the age of 18 regardless of their seating position within the vehicle. It should be noted that law enforcement often uses seatbelt violations as a means to pull over a driver and then investigate other potential criminal offenses including DUI.
As a follow-up to our report on the May 5th, 2017 DUI Wolf Pack, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office recently released the results of the operation that included participation by the Clearwater Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol, Gulfport Police Department, Kenneth City Police Department, Largo Police Department, St. Petersburg Police Department, and Tarpon Springs Police Department.
