Pinellas County Sheriff Offering Labor Day Weekend Specials
Labor Day Weekend abounds with Specials. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is offering their own “Special” in the form of Saturation patrols to target DUI drivers throughout Pinellas County over the Labor Day Weekend. This is one “Special” you should avoid.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office utilizing its Patrol Operations Bureau including the DUI Unit, Traffic Enforcement, and the Flight Unit will be monitoring drivers throughout Pinellas County looking for indicators of impairment such that they can conduct a criminal investigation for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).
There are two (2) distinct shifts of operations this 2018 Labor Day Weekend:
- The first Saturation Patrol Operation starts at 6 p.m., Friday, August 31, 2018, and will continue until 4 a.m., Saturday, September 1, 2018.
- The second Saturation Patrol Operation starts at 6 p.m., Sunday, September 2, 2018, and will continue until 4 a.m., Monday, September 3, 2018.
The Saturation Patrols will focus on highly trafficked areas in Pinellas County and will maintain a high profile as they focus on identifying under the influence drivers.
The Pinellas County Sheriff has stated that this weekend’s Saturation Patrols are part of an on-going program to, “reduce deaths, injuries, and property damage associated with traffic crashes related to impaired driving.”
The Saturation Patrols will be attempting to identify drivers under the influence of alcohol and/or any chemical or controlled substances.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office has also run DUI Wolf Packs with other local law enforcement agencies. The Saturation Patrols do not take the place of the Wolf Packs, but instead supplement the quarterly multi-jurisdictional DUI Wolf Packs.
Even a first-time DUI can include significant criminal consequences including driver license suspension, fines, and possible jail time and probation.
